About Orgone from KEXP in Seattle:

“Ten-year old, eight-piece L.A. based soul/funk band Orgone has that perfect combination of tight refinement raw gut-punching power that is needed to become known, as they have, as one of the baddest funk bands around today. They play an updated take on the spirit of classic groups like The Meters, Booker T. and the MGs, and Parliament Funkadelic. The addition of soul singer Niki J. Crawford on stage has allowed the band’s already high-energy funk to branch out — they sound more soulful, more sultry and more sure of themselves each year. The band has spent the past three years nearly constantly touring, and has recently opened for marquee-level groups like The Roots, Ozomatli, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Snoop Dogg (Snoop Lion?), Al Green, and Gil Scott-Heron. The word “orgone” originates with 1930s-era mystic Wilhelm Reich who used the term to describe his idea of an anti-entropic universal life force. And that’s entirely fitting for a band so full of force, life, with a sound that, through tight organization and execution, frees the mind and the body in a rapidly disordering world. The train keeps on rollin’!

Join us for a night of overindulgence and debauchery when TITLE TOWN Soul & Funk Party returns to the Brillobox on Saturday, February 9th!

Now every second Saturday, TITLE TOWN spins seven-inch singles from the best periods of American music – and it’s one of only a few parties of its kind in Pittsburgh. It’s dance floor bliss from the ’50s onward, taking in ‘60s soul, classic Rhythm & Blues, Motown, Funk, Mod Jazz, Latin Boogaloo – and everything in between.

This month, we’re pleased to welcome DJ BABY ALCATRAZ for her first guest spot at TITLE TOWN. From Washington, D.C., Baby Alcatraz is best known for events like SMASHING TIME, a rock n’ soul shindig held monthly at the Velvet Lounge on U Street, where she spins alongside D.C.-based veterans Kid Congo Powers and Ian Svenonius. She’s also a regular contributor at Save Your Soul, Baltimore’s wildest all-vinyl soul get down. Expect a wild, uptempo mix of soul 45s, vintage R&B, girl group sounds, frenzied freakbeat and more when BABY ALCATRAZ hits the decks!

You can count on Big Easy-style revelry most months at TITLE TOWN, but this month we’re turning it up a notch. We’ll take you back to old N’awlins and give your feet a proper workout with our late-night all New Orleans mini-set mixed with other NOLA artists throughout the night. Think Eddie Bo, The Meters, Ernie K. Doe, and Prof. Longhair. Jingle to the funky beat of Mary Jane Hooper and ride the pony with Lee Dorsey. Like Detroit, New Orleans is not a city of resurrection, but a hard-fought rebirth of music, culture and soul. We’ll get your voodoo workin’ just fine.

It all goes down at the Brillobox, Pittsburgh’s favorite neighborhood club, offering a full food menu, stiff drinks and a commitment to providing the community with high quality music and art events.

Get into it. You will enjoy yourself.

Early arrival is recommended. We fill up fast.

“Something old and something new.”Join us on Saturday, January 12th when the long running TITLE TOWN Soul & Funk Party kicks off 2013 at its new home at the Brillobox.Every second Saturday, TITLE TOWN spins vintage soul records from the best periods of American music – and it’s one of only a few parties of its kind in Pittsburgh. It’s a dance floor journey from the fifties onward, taking in Northern Soul, classic Rhythm & Blues, Motown, Funk, Mod Jazz, and Latin Boogaloo – and it’s all got a whole lotta soul. Guest deejays from Pittsburgh and around the globe spin their selections for five hours while the Brillobox bartenders supply the cocktails and a fine assortment of good brews – you just have a good time.

With the name inspired by Pittsburgh’s “Title Town, U.S.A.” records from the late ‘70s/early ‘80s, TITLE TOWN continues our never-ending mission of providing the good the stuff. We’ll take you back to the long gone days of sweaty Chicago juke joints, the Memphis Horns and the Detroit Sound. We’ll dig deeper and spin the lost treasures of Toledo and Columbus, New Orleans, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, Pa.

To help get us started on the good foot, we’ve enlisted friend and Pittsburgh soul ambassador, DJ Riel of the Steel City Soul Club. A TITLE TOWN debut for this long-time DJ and collector, DJ Riel is credited with hosting the five year run of the Restless soul night in the South Side and the Revival party at the Firehouse Lounge. When DJ hits the decks, you can expect a feel-good mix of ‘60s & ‘70s rare and Northern Soul, Latin Boogaloo, Ska and everything in between.

It’s gonna be a big thing!

Early arrival is recommended.

The last party at the Shadow Lounge; Title Town Soul & Funk Party moves to the Brillobox in 2013!

From the desk of J.Malls:

As many of you have already heard, December 29th is the last TITLE TOWN date at Shadow Lounge. In addition, it’s also the last party that I’ll be involved with. I’m taking next year off, seeing where it takes me, and playing it by ear after that. Gordy G. will be continuing with TITLE TOWN at Brillobox the second Saturday of each month in 2013 (the first Brillobox date is Saturday, January 12th). I’ll likely be through to guest DJ at some point, but I no longer have any intention of planning and promoting regular weekly or monthly events.

Since Gordy will be out on the west coast for the holiday, I’ve enlisted Philadelphia’s own, Skeme Richards of the world famous Hot Peas & Butta party, to come through and rock with me. In addition to making his mark in the world of Soul and Funk 45’s, Skeme is also a big name in the Bboy community (representing the legendary Rock Steady Crew). He is a collector of most things that are collectible and he’ll be providing us with vintage visuals from the Hot Peas & Butta VHS vaults.

The past several years of promoting events in Pittsburgh have been awesome. I have no regrets about them and I wouldn’t have preferred to of spent my time any other way. All things must change and everybody has to grow though. If you want to party hard at Shadow Lounge and get loose on the dance floor with me one last time this is your opportunity to do so.

Be there when TITLE TOWN meets Hot Peas & Butta! When Pittsburgh meets Philadelphia!! Be there when the entire Keystone State shakes to our plentiful sounds of Soul and Funk 45’s and the earth rotates on it’s axis at forty-five revolutions per minute!!!

Obviously we recommend that you wear comfortable shoes and something that you can dance in 😉 The doors open early at 9 PM, being 21+ with proper I.D. is a must, and the fee for the place to be is $5 USD’s. I hope to see you there. You tell three friends and they’ll tell three friends, and so on and so on and so on…
