IT’S THE TITLE TOWN SUPER SOUL PRIZE GIVEAWAY

As you may have heard, we’re super stoked to get our summer soul programming underway. We’re kicking things off this month with the very first TITLE TOWN Record Bar in the Shadow Lounge Blue Room.  It’s the one place in town where you can buy vintage vinyl, sip tasty drinks and dance all night.  And this isn’t just soul, our dealers will have a wide-ranging selection of reasonably priced goodness.

To celebrate, we’re having a little contest.  Here’s what we got for you:

ONE LUCKY WINNER will receive a $20 gift certificate courtesy of Jerry’s Records in Squirrel Hill, a limited edition Title Town t-shirt (limited sizes), free admission to the party, a limited edition JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound 45 courtesy of Addenda Records and a Charles Bradley (Daptone Records) 45!

TO ENTER: Just RSVP at the Facebook event page by 6pm on Friday, April 27th.

A winner will be announced on Saturday.

The feeling is right! Title Town returns on Saturday, March 31st!

Once again, it’s on. For those not familiar with TITLE TOWN, the last few months have been bananas. It’s that one night of the month when Pittsburgh’s finest, funkiest dancers take over the Shadow Lounge for a night showcasing all things good about soul music.

Come get down with us on Saturday, March 31st for a sweaty, drink and dance-filled soiree of the highest order. We’ll be doin’ the usual, all-vinyl, all-45 mix: equal parts ‘60s soul grooves, deep funk, end-of-the-night disco and some of that old, raw rhythm & blues to top it all off.

Joining forces with us this month is none other than Brooklyn, New York’s David Griffiths. David helped us kick off the inaugural Title Town a few years ago and he’s back again this month for another sure-to-be-funky guest spot.

In addition to DJing, David has curated some of the finest soul and funk reissues on labels like Daptone and Kay-Dee Records. This month we’re featuring The Darling Dears And Funky Heavy “And I Love You / I Don’t Think I’ll Ever Love Another” 45 on Griffiths’ own Orivious Records. It’s an official, from-the-master-tapes issue of one of the most sought after funk single ever recorded.

Check it out here: here

So whaddya say? In a time when dance music is suffering, the music takes center stage at TITLE TOWN. Move and groove to the CLASSICS from artists like the ISLEY BROTHERS, ETTA JAMES, and FREDA PAYNE, plus shake it on down to highly danceable, rare soul and funk cuts from New York, New Orleans, Detroit and everything in between. The cover is cheap as chips and there will be drink specials til’ midnight.

Do your ears a favor and don’t miss this party.

Early arrival is recommended. You must enter through the Shadow Lounge on Baum Boulevard.

Happy Holidays! Here’s some free music to play while you’re sippin’ your egg nog.

Hey everyone.  Over here at Title Town, we wanted to say thanks for all the support over the past year – for coming out early and having a beer or dancing for 5 straight hours.  If you didn’t get a mix CD in November, here it is – packaged up all nice n’ easy in an easy-to-download ZIP file.  No holiday tracks on this one (check out J.Malls’ Xmas mix for that), but an hour or so of rare funk and soul grooves, Title Town classics and a few things we’ve never played – all recorded from original 45s.

Get ready for New Year’s Eve 2012 with TITLE TOWN Soul & Funk Party at the Shadow Lounge & AVA!  Advance tickets are on sale now.  Click here to purchase.

Whatever happened to my Transylvania twist?

As we approach our 2-year anniversary, it just so happens that TITLE TOWN falls on Halloween weekend. And unless you’ve been living under a gravestone, you know this will be a party.

On Saturday, October 29, prepare for what is sure to be one of the wildest, soul-chilling Halloween dance parties around as Title Town invites Pittsburgh’s trail blazin’ ambassador of Northern SOUL & R&B Justin “Juddy” Hopper (Vipers Soul Club, Soulcialism, Pandemic…) to dust off his box of tricks n’ treats for the dance-floor.

After helping to cement Pittsburgh’s place in the burgeoning nationwide soul scene, we’re super excited to have Juddy back at the Lounge. What to expect: An unholy concoction of blister-inducing Northern soul, dirty-as-hell R&B, and a bit of psychopathic Jump Blues all mixed up in a stiff cocktail for your ever-lovin’ ears.

Life’s too short for mediocre music, so get to the Shadow Lounge where we’ll be slingin’ back vintage dance tunes galore while you pour back libations, dance manically and get sweaty with a bunch of your closest, costumed friends.

This month, expect 5 hours of wickedly rare, yet frightfully danceable soul, funk and R&B records including feel-good classics from SHIRLEY ELLIS, THE MIRACLES, JACKIE WILSON, THE 5 ROYALES, YOUNG JESSIE, THE ARTISTICS and so many more.

Prepare for what is sure to be a feast for all your senses – we’ll have Oktoberfest brews, funky projections on the wall, the Brassero Grill taco truck outside the Lounge, and we’ll be handing out a bunch of prizes including gift certificates, t-shirts, and vinyl records:

COSTUME CONTEST! (around 11:30 PM)
Prizes in each category for:

• Best Overall Costume
• Funkiest Costume
• Sexiest Costume
• Best Mashup Costume

Hands down, there is no better time you’ll have for 5 bucks on a Saturday night!

Whole lot of shakin’…New York Night Train’s Jonathan Toubin at Title Town!

For two straight years JONATHAN TOUBIN’S Soul Clap and Dance-Off has been voted one of the most consistently bad ass, raddest, sweat-bathed dance parties in New York City and beyond.

On Saturday, August 27th, Title Town Soul & Funk Party welcomes NEW YORK NIGHT TRAIN’S JONATHAN TOUBIN to the Shadow Lounge to drop his R&B-heavy-wild party-style mix on your ever lovin’ ears for one our biggest events of the summer!

TOUBIN’s concept is simple – all night dancing to wild 45s of the finest soul, funk, R&B, garage, doo wop, rockabilly, British invasion, girl group, and dance craze recordings you’ve never heard – and of course – exclusively on 45RPM vinyl. Toubin’s parties not only sell beyond capacity in NYC, but he has soul traveled all the way from Portland, Oregon to Portland, Maine and internationally from Tel Aviv to Mexico City – including monthly residencies in New York, Chicago, LA, San Francisco, Oakland, and PDX.

One of the best-known DJs in the New York, Jonathan has been embarking on a new mission: teaching the underground to dance…and dance together, no less. Earlier in the summer, he launched Land Of 1,000 Dances, a multimedia effort that combined projections of retro dances with his deep collection and live dancers—including Contortions mastermind James Chance, Kid Congo Powers and Anna Copa Cabanna—to help people learn crazes of the past.

“What was sad about The Twist was that people danced together before that,” Toubin says. “These dances are the first ones people danced alone. But on the other hand, they are far less lonely than dances are today.”

The NY Press writes, “Toubin is trying to bring a sense of community back to nightlife, fighting against the alienation that’s seeped into cool culture. And if there’s anyone who can do it, it’s Toubin.”

We do this for long enough,” he says, “these dances are going to become part of the culture again. People will take them to different states and different countries and they will just keep going and going.”

This party will sell out. Early arrival is strongly recommended!
